Building a better future for children's health - with you
Welcome to the parent crew getting better answers for kids' health
Getting info on kids’ health is hard. It doesn’t have to be.
Hi friends, we’re finally publishing our first newsletter, woo-hoo! If you’re on this, it’s likely that you were on of Sleuth’s first users - your early support helped us get to where we are now, i.e. a robust product in testing that will be even better by July.
A bit about us…
Sleuth co-founders, Sehreen Noor Ali and Alex Leeds, PhD, connected over their shared interest in kids. Sehreen is a mom of two who left her edtech career to figure out her daughter’s health (she chronicles her journey here). Alex was a data scientist at a thriving tech company who wanted to use his skills for something with deep impact; he also was awaiting the arrival of his first child.
Sleuth’s vision is to be the best place online for answers on children’s health. We leverage the #1 resource parents turn to for help: other parents. You can find more about our methodology here.
1. Why Sleuth, why now?
The 1950s had Dr. Spock. The early 2000s had WebMD. In 2023, parents are looking for something better than Dr. Google: data-driven, reliable, and personalized.
We aim to fill that gap.
2. We’re better together
Children used to be raised in community where parents benefited from the guidance of peers who had “been there-done that”. We know that parents share and receive critical insights - on specialists, interventions, and daily living - from each other. We strongly believe in the expertise of parents and caregivers. It’s why we leverage the accuracy of crowdsourcing to bring this “wisdom of the expert crowd” to your fingertips.
3. Staying connected
Once a week, we’ll send you insights on kids’ health and Sleuth updates in our newsletter. Tell us what you want to hear more or less of - your input during our early days is critical and we’d love for you to help shape the future of kids’ health.
4. Data = power
Our small, mighty team is working hard to make sure Sleuth is everything you need to understand your kids’ health. We have data from 63,000 parents on the symptoms, behaviors, and interventions their child has experienced.
Our data can tell you insights like this…
Almost 1 in 2 kids have moderate to severe tantrums or meltdowns at age 5.
38% of parents on Sleuth say their child has anxiety. The prevalence of anxiety gets worse as kids get older.
and tidbits like this:
About 1 in 5 kids are already biting their nails at age 3.
Daydreaming increases between the ages of 5 and 12 and then decreases after the age of 13
We already have the tools you need to track, read, and share about our kid’s health and it’s getting better each week. Check out the app if you haven’t already to start building a picture of your own child’s health.
And don’t be a stranger: we’d love to hear from you and get your feedback. Cheers to the beginning of a meaningful collaboration!
